FAQ'sFrequently asked questions

We know money is the root cause to so many of the stresses couples experience. We are here to eradicate, and support as you move into a fully communicative process, learning so much about your environment and each other.

The ideal wedding budget will vary depending on your financial situation, wedding size, and priorities. A good starting point is to assess how much you have saved, what you can realistically save before the wedding, and whether family or friends will contribute. On average, most couples spend between 10-15% of their annual income on a wedding. However, it’s crucial not to overspend or go into debt. I recommend setting a clear limit based on your comfort level, then prioritising your expenses based on what matters most to you—whether that’s the venue, food, or photography. I can help you create a custom plan that aligns with your financial goals both for the wedding and your future together.

There are several expenses that couples commonly overlook, and these can add up quickly. Some hidden costs include:

  • Alterations for wedding attire
  • Delivery/setup fees for flowers, décor, or furniture rentals
  • Taxes and service charges, particularly with venues and catering
  • Marriage license fees
  • Post-wedding costs, such as thank-you cards or gown cleaning

To prevent surprises, I recommend allocating about 5-10% of your total budget for these unforeseen expenses.

The key is detailed planning and regular check-ins. I advise couples to break their budget down into specific categories (venue, food, flowers, etc.) and assign realistic amounts to each based on research and priority. Using a budgeting tool or spreadsheet to track every expense is critical to prevent going overboard. We know last-minute upgrades or emotional spending can happen closer to the day so we would always advise having a small additional fund . I can provide you with templates and tools that will help you monitor your spending and ensure your financial health stays intact.

Prioritising your spending is all about identifying what aspects of the wedding mean the most to you as a couple. Start by listing your non-negotiables, your must haves, things that are essential for making your day special and allocate a larger portion of your budget to those areas, whether it’s the venue, photographer, or entertainment. For other aspects that aren't as important, look for cost-effective options, like DIY décor or digital invitations. It’s also helpful to ask yourselves whether each decision is aligned with your overall vision and values. By focusing on what truly matters, you can create a meaningful celebration without overspending.

Money is one of the most common sources of stress for couples, especially during wedding planning. To minimise tension, start with open and honest conversations about your budget, financial limits, and priorities. Be clear about what each of you values most for the wedding, and compromise where needed to avoid arguments later. Setting a realistic, agreed-upon budget together from the start can prevent future conflicts. It’s also helpful to regularly check in with each other about spending, so no one feels blindsided by unexpected costs. I can assist in guiding these conversations and helping you navigate the financial aspects calmly and collaboratively.
